In
1914 the nations of Europe were building up their
armies, competing for colonies and trade, glorifying
in a bellicose sense of national identity and entering
upon alliances with other nations in preparation for
war. There were several causes of the "war to end all wars." Militarism, economic imperialism, nationalism,
and system of entangling alliances were the major
causes of what would be known as the Great War.
