The forced evacuation of Phnom Penh in April 1975


The Khmer Rouge targeted the literate urban population in particular. The ideal was an agrarian communist state with peasant values.
In April 1975 the largest city in Cambodia was Phnom Penh, and it's population was forced to evacuate to go to labor camps in the rural areas.
